In the surroundings of Jeanette Baïta you can be assured of a big variety of sites worth seeing, events, extraordinary villages and museums worth making a special effort for. Underneath some of the features this region has to offer.
And what are the best months? That all depends on what you are looking for. From November till February you get the chance to meet the Basques as they really are and as they normally live in the area. The mountains are filled with colours and reveal their magic. Long walks; possibly along the coast, evenings at the fireplace and also a lot of clear, sunny and remarkably warm days which invite for a picnic on the beach or the quiet of a golf-resort. A time of relative peace - on your own or with good friends.. everyone has a little more time on their hands. From March till June is springtime. In the mountains the herbs are growing and the morning dew is evaporated by the strengthening sun. Life starts to happen on the streets, the beaches are still empty and the markets sell their first fresh produce. The afternoon lunches are eaten outside and the local attractions like La Rhune, the caves of Sare, St. Jean Pied du Port etc.etc. are not yet full with tourists. Around June starts the height of the summer period begins. From July till October there's a lot of partying, nearly every day another event in another village or town. La Force Basque, the Sardines-party, Tuna-event, Cooking contests, Fancy fairs, Horse markets etc.etc. The holiday chosen mainly by the French is August. They mingle with the people from all kinds of countries as well as the Basques who usually stay at home for their holidays. Life has another pace. This stays untill October which, according to the locals is always a warm month. which, according to the locals is always a warm month. |
